Check-Up Center - American Hospital of Paris

The Check-Up Center at the American Hospital of Paris is a self-pay preventative-medicine unit in Neuilly-sur-Seine, just west of Paris, set up in 1991 and housed in the hospital's Espace Diagnostic Santé Richard Vipiana.

It sells named packages at published prices rather than treating presenting illness:

• Core, a general check-up at 1,900 euros, covering blood and urine analysis, a stool test for bowel cancer, sight and hearing checks, resting and exercise ECGs (electrocardiograms, which trace the heart's electrical activity), lung-function testing and abdominal ultrasound
• Core Cardio at 3,400 euros, adding carotid and cardiac ultrasound, a coronary calcium score from a CT (computed tomography) scan and an indirect estimate of VO2 max, the amount of oxygen the body uses at peak effort
• Core Gyneco, Optimal Femina at 3,700 to 3,900 euros, and Healthy Fifty Femina at 4,400 euros for women around the menopause, which includes genetic testing for breast-cancer risk

Add-ons cover smokers and ex-smokers and a Women's Risk Institute breast-cancer risk assessment. Staff are described as bilingual French and English, with reception for Japanese, Arabic and Chinese speakers. Booking is by phone or email, and no membership is required.
