About Metamedicum

Metamedicum is a private specialist centre in Essen-Bredeney, renamed from Preventicum with effect from 1 January 2025, selling tiered self-pay check-ups to people who have no symptoms.

Five packages are published: Basis Check, Basis Check Plus, Kompakt Check, Kardio Check and Gastro Check. All of them include a physical examination, a broad blood panel including vitamin D, blood pressure, resting and exercise ECG (electrocardiogram, a trace of the heart's electrical activity), lung function, body composition, heart-rate variability as a stress marker, eye-pressure and vision testing, and ultrasound of the thyroid, carotid arteries, abdomen and heart.

The tiers differ mainly by imaging. Basis Check Plus adds two MRI scans of your choice and Kompakt Check four, covering the skull, abdomen, thorax, pelvis or a section of the spine. Kardio Check narrows to the heart and vessels with an optional cardiac CT scan, and gastroscopy or colonoscopy can be booked on to any package.

The centre is owned by Prof. Dr. med. Dietrich Baumgart, a cardiologist, and Dr. med. Thomas Zadow-Eulerich, a radiologist, with a wider bench of specialists in urology, neurology, gastroenterology and nephrology. Examinations and results discussions are offered in German or English, and there is a second site in Duesseldorf. No prices are published.
