Senolytics are compounds intended to kill senescent cells - cells that have stopped dividing but refuse to die, and that leak inflammatory signals into the tissue around them. These cells accumulate with age, and clearing them from mice improves several measures of ageing, which is where the interest comes from.

In humans the field is early. There are small trials, mostly in specific diseases such as lung fibrosis and diabetic kidney disease, and the results are preliminary. There is no completed large trial showing that clearing senescent cells makes healthy people healthier or longer-lived.
